RESCUES
CANINES
All adoptable canines will receive a DHPP vaccine, intra-nasal Bordetella, and heartworm test (if over 6 months of age), worming with Panacur for 3 days according to weight prior to leaving the Lancaster County Animal Shelter.
We do our best to judge the temperament status of the canines while in our care and advise of the temperament test results and any test results of the animal.
The shelter sends emails to the rescue groups that pull from our shelter currently. The email includes photos of the incoming animals along with a short bio and description of that animal and the available date the animal comes off stray hold.
IF YOU ARE A RESCUE AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED IN THESE EMAILS, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE ABOVE OR YOU MAY SEND AN EMAIL TO animal@lancastercountysc.gov. Please include your nonprofit status, a vet reference and a list of members able to make 'pull' decisions for your agency.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING HEARTWORM TREATMENT SUBSIDIES:
LASS (Lancaster Animal Shelter Supporters of South Carolina) and Lancaster SPCA have graciously offered to contribute $150 each ($300 total) toward heartworm treatment for any heartworm positive dog pulled by a rescue group. LASS has also offered to help with boarding costs at a local boarding facility should boarding become necessary. Thank you to LASS and LSPCA! Please inquire at the shelter for details or email our Rescue Coordinator BHowington@LancasterSC.net.
FELINES
All adoptable felines will be tested for FIV/FeLV. If the feline has a negative test result, it will receive a 4Way Booster for felines, worming with Strongid, rabies vaccination, and sterilization. Health Certificates are available upon request. If you are interested in receiving the emails with photos, behavior test results and the bio of the felines housed at our shelter, please send an email to animal@lancastercountysc.gov.
